Edith was born in Reno Township near Whittemore to Henry and Augusta Seafert on February 11, 1912. She was the youngest of sixteen.

At a very young age she became her dad’s right hand woman. Living on a farm she learned how to milk cows which helped her dad out tremendously since her older brothers were already with jobs of their own. She attended a one room school and graduated from the eighth grade.

In her teenage years she loved going to dances. In fact Edith met her future husband Garfield Provoast at one. It was love from the start as she and Garfield married on April 18, 1929 when she was seventeen.

They have three lovely children Marian, Elgin and Lowell all of which still resides in Michigan. They also have 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren.

She helped migrant workers who cam north to work on local farms. She taught catechism to the children of the migrant workers and helped with their first Communion and made sure that everyone had warm food and clothes. Two of the children, who became her God children, went on to become a judge and a tailor in the Detroit area. They refer to Rolan as their “angel.”

Rolan entered the Carriage House in March 2007. She will be turning 98 this year!
